Known as Glasgow St Paul’s Provanmill, our parish is located in the
North East of Glasgow, and stretches from the Royal Infirmary near the
city centre at one end, to Hogganfield loch at the other. The Parish
covers approximately 3 square miles, and has a population of around
10,000.
The parish incorporates the communities of Royston, Germiston,
Blackhill, Provanmill, and Hogganfield.
The church itself is located close to the source of the Molendinar
burn that Glasgow was founded upon.
The area has gone through a huge
regeneration in the last 15 years. Old tenements have been pulled down
and new housing stock has been, and is being built, with the majority
being housing association houses and some owner occupied.
Blackhill/ Provanmill is placed 47th on the Scottish Governments SMID
list, with Royston and Germiston also classed in the bottom 5% of
deprivation.
We are an urban priority parish for the Church of Scotland
and situated with in North East Glasgow’s Community Planning
Partnership, there are various agencies working in the locality that the
church can and does link with.
The parish is served by 4 local primary schools, and two local
secondary schools, one Roman Catholic, one non-denominational, just
outside the parish. There is a strong connection with the local schools,
with the youth team leader serving on the Chaplaincy team which
currently has 5 members. There are two Roman Catholic Churches in the
parish that we continue to develop links with.
